Wow... first post. It's all very overwhelming but at the same time it's been enough time to let the initial enthusiastic glee fade to make room for some more serious thought and considerations.
I want to build an airship. That is huge!
It started on the plane back up to Tromsø from home during easter. We all know planes pollute. A lot. And a lot of people jokes with the thought that bringing airships back on the market would be much more enviromental. The downfall? It takes too much time in our busybusy hectic lives. But come on. An airship? That'd be awesome! Of course having your own flying thing is a great bonus too. And a floating flying thing? Ooooh yeah!
Naturally the first obstacle is not in all the maths, the architecture, the science and the drawing. Not even the technical difficulties or the cost involved. No, the first obstacle is the law.
So there I was, skimming through the Norwegian law of the air. There is nothing in there that indicates a private aircraft have to be, well, a plane. So far so good. But I need more proof. I need to be certain. Anxious, exited and nervous, I type a mail to the Civil Aviation Authoroty - Norway. I did go a little overboard and loaded it with tons of questions. Oh well, it happens.
They were quick in answering just today, a day after, I got a simple answer stating that she could only answer the first question: If airships could be legal in Norway. And the answer was yes! It is possible! Great news! This woman was also kind enough to forward the mail to the technical department, where they would hopefully help with the rest of the questions and other technical tidbits that I need to know in order to start out with such a huge project.
So there it is. The first stages. This is possible!
I'm guessing next step will be knowing what equipment is an absolute "must have" by law, like radios and stuff, and determine wether or not I can actually afford this, even if it is many years from now and I start saving up today. Hopefully soon. But if not now while I'm studing, certainly when I get rich!
